Savannah Construction in the Millennium

The new millennium began almost a decade ago, and it seems in this time that there has been such a focus on modernity and 'change', the desire to keep things updated, renewed, and changing the style constantly with an influx of new ideas and concepts. One town, however, has defied this trend and has instead focussed on keeping the historians happy and at the same time attracting a large host of tourists every year! Located in the Southern state of Georgia, Savannah is popular for its restaurants and amazing beach on the Savannah Tybee Island, but do not forget the thing that the town is famous for - and that is its amazingly rich architecture and design. Savannah construction is truly something to see and behold. There are heaps of things to see in Savannah, other than the amazing beaches!

Savannah's Famous Architecture

If you are travelling to Savannah for a vacation or family holiday, be sure to first bask in the very best of Savannah services and culture. Booking yourself into one of the beautiful hotels or bed and breakfast facilities is a great start and an easy way to unwind after a long car-ride or flight. Take a walk around the city centre to get an idea for the range of shops and localities that are available - you might be pleasantly surprised how well developed the town is considering its small population of just 130,000. Be sure to check out some of the great restaurants and cafes in the Savannah region. This is also a great way to ask locals about their favourite destinations and about some of the tourist hot-spots that you intend to visit. It's all very well to do your research online, but there is no better way to find out information than to ask the people that experience the beautiful world of Savannah day in, day out.

The Beautiful Fort Pulaski

A great place to begin is the famous Fort Pulaski. The Fortress, in 1862, was the site of a famous turning point in military history. It signified the first use of rifled cannons in combat which can still be witnessed today on a guided or self-guided tour. The Fort Pulaski National Monument is one of the most glamorous sights to be seen anywhere in the world. Built in the centre of four 30-foot walls and surrounded by beautiful green and healthy landscape, the Fortress simply has to be seen to be believed. One can also visit the nearby cemetery which houses the bodies of fallen soldiers from the early to mid-19th century. If you are planning on travelling by car to Fort Pulaski, the Fort Pulaski National Monument entrance is only a short drive away from Savannah.

The Famous Savannah Tybee Island Light Station

The Savannah Tybee Island Light House is one of the most popular attractions in the state of Georgia, built in the early 1700's and still operational today, the lighthouse serves as a valuable member of the harbour, helping freight and private ships enter the Savannah River on a daily basis. The Light Station is truly a great example of brilliant Savannah construction. The Tybee Island Light house remains one of the United States of America's most intact and well kept buildings. Still standing after almost 300 years, it is kept in the same manner that it was in the past. There are tours available which run during the week and give the history fan an opportunity to learn about one of the greatest spectacles in Southern USA. Located just a twenty minute drive from the Savannah CBD, the Island is accessible by car or the Savannah bus network which departs the city on the hour on weekdays, with limited services available on weekdays.
