Where Are The Savannah Islands?

The Savannah islands are located on the east coast of Savannah, a beautiful town with more than 130,000 residents, located in Georgia, the United States. Attracting millions of visitors every year, the Savannah Islands are well known for their amazing fishing experiences and also the beautiful coastline. The Savannah Islands are just a 20 minute drive from Georgia, which is located in the south-eastern region of the United States of America. The most popular island near Savannah is Tybee Island, which is a popular spot for fishing, sunbathing and interestingly enough, weddings! Tybee Island fits the description given to the town of Savannah by the local government. It is described as 'Rich with history and alive with contemporary culture and arts, Savannah offers visitors the unique experience of a complex past, a thriving present, and a progressive future'. The beaches are very nostalgic and history focussed but also modern and able to keep up with changes expected of 21st century beach resorts and facilities.

Visiting Tybee Island

Tybee Island is one of the most well-known parts of Savannah. At Tybee Island, lovers of nature can mingle amongst famous movie stars, bird watchers, parties, spectacular pirate raids, and of course, gorgeous silent sunrises. Everyone loves Tybee Island. It is that good that you will never want to leave - and providentially, you will not have to. Positioned just a 20 minute drive east of Savannah's CBD, Tybee Island is known for its laid-back character, and the relaxed attitude of its regular residents. Amongst the popular attractions of Tybee Island is the wonderful beach. It has been a very popular tourist destination since the 1880's. The beach is well looked after (like most of the other Savannah services) and well maintained, with light sand and warm, calm waves. Many tourists will bring the bicycle and ride along the beach at low tide on the hard sand, which can be a very exciting and relaxing way to take in the beautiful scenery of Tybee Island. There are two very different parts of the beach. There is the South beach, which is one of the world's most celebrated beaches to get married, and has been frequented in many movie scenes and has been adopted by thousands of people throughout the world who travel to this stunning island. There is also the smaller, less crowded beach known as the Mid Beach. Locals generally prefer this beach because they can avoid the bravado and noise of tourists. It is by and large a more quiet and relaxed experience. Savannah bed and breakfast facilities are located nearby to the Savannah Islands, making them very accessible and a very popular place for tourists. It means that tourists can stay within walking distance to the beaches and walk back and forth - and not even have to worry about expensive car rental!

What is so Alluring about the Islands?

The Islands are alluring because they really are different to almost any place on earth. In addition to the beautiful beach, there are so many incredible attractions in the neighbouring municipality. When you are finished lounging around at the beach you can take the amazing lighthouse tour, which has been running since the early 1900's. The Tybee Museum is also a famous attraction. Rich in its history, the museum has regular maritime exhibits and is located not far from the shores of the picturesque beach. If you are looking to stay with the maritime and water theme, the marine science centre is definitely a must! The science centre has incredible exhibits and aquariums which host a stunning variety of fish, reptiles, invertebrates, corals and other interesting sea creatures. You can learn about the barrier islands, the horseshoe crabs and of course - the famous sea turtles! During the summer months, there is also a Tybee Turtle tour which is great for the kids and provides educational information about all sorts of marine life. In addition, we have not even touched on the incredible art precincts that surround the town and the Islands. It could be the Savannah bed and breakfast places which first draw people to Savannah, but it is probably the other great Savannah services, such as the beach and the Islands that keep people coming back time and time again. Savannah is just an incredible place to be - and the islands are truly something special to visit. If you do not have the chance to come and stay for a long time, make sure you at least come for a night and stay at one of the local Savannah bed and breakfasts, or at least drop through for a day trip. There is so much to see, so be sure to bring the whole family with you when you come.
